Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Therapy

 

Professional Competence

Physiatrist is a doctor of medicine who is a specialist in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and sports, neurological, orthopedic and other system disorder. The physician supervises the rehabilitation team in the medical care of patients with disabilities.

 

Physical Therapist treats the patient for functional restoration thru the application of physical modalities and therapeutic exercise. These include heat and cold, electrical stimulation, manual and massage therapy, strengthening and plyometrics to return the patient to normal or near normal function.

 

Occupational Therapist treats the patient for functional activities thru Activities of Daily living, orthoses and prostheses. These include home and community work and fabrication of assistive and adaptive devices to improve the quality of life of patients.

 

Respiratory Therapist treats the patient with pulmonary conditions thru chest physiotherapy and rehabilitation. These also include diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as arterial blood gases, spirometry, oxygenation and ventilation interventions.

CHINESE TRADITIONAL MEDICINE AND ACUPUNCTURE

The Physical Therapy (PT) course of St. Jude College’s School of Rehabilitation Sciences is now offering a program on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (TCMA). Consisting of academic and clinical fields of study, this PT curriculum is duly recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
 

With this CHED recognition, the PT course of St. Jude College is the first and only PT curriculum in the Philippines that offers both academic and clinical fields of study in TCMA. Upon graduation, the St. Jude PT graduate becomes eligible to take the international License in Acupuncture (LAc).
